I had a lovely day out in Bath the other day with 3 of my wonderful friends, and visited a few health food and conscious eateries. The Green Rocket is an award winning vegetarian and vegan restaurant. it's located just down the road from the train station, near the bridge by the river Avon: on the opposite side of the road to the Abbey. Cosy on a corner, the cafe is an unassuming addition to the street, but very easy to spot. Inside is intimate but spacious, the old rooms very Bath-esque in their quaintness. We delighted in some tea and vegan cheesecake- the lime and basil one comes highly recommended! My friend had a banana and cinnamon cake- also delicious. I will definitely be going back to try some of the other yummy looking food on their menu- lunch options include soups, burgers, falafel, risotto and many more. They also have breakfast and dinner menus, or just pop in for tea and a selection of home-made cakes like we did! The staff were lovely and attentive, and obliged me by allowing me to take a photo of them! Other places we visited were:
Harvest, the health food shop selling everything from fruits and vegetables to deli delicacies, and help-yourself-style grains and spices. https://www.facebook.com/Harvest-Bath-115818595106280/ Rosarios, a little Italian style cafe selling vegan and gluten free cakes. They made me chai latte with soy milk bless them! http://www.roscoff.co.uk/ The Green Rocket website: http://www.thegreenrocket.co.uk/

Nourish is an organic vegetarian restaurant in Church Lane, Inverness. My auntie and I visited one afternoon, and the cosy little cafe was bustling with people coming and going the whole time we were there. Their ethos of providing healthy yet delicious food, catering for all dietary requirements, proves to be very popular! I loved the little initials they put on each item of the menu, to indicate whether it is vegan (v), gluten free (GF), sugar free (SF), dairy free (DF) or wheat free (WF). Nicely organised and presented! We indulged in some delicious cakes- I had a dairy free Autumn Berry and Coconut slice, and my auntie had a vegan, sugar free and wheat free flapjack. I ordered a Banana and Berry smoothie made with almond milk, and my auntie an organic beetroot juice. And we were both very satisfied! I went to catch my flight back after the visit, so I also ordered a takeaway falafel, hummus and tomato wrap (v and gf!) and that was tasty too... although I forgot it in my aunties bag and she ran down the street to stop the bus to give it to me!! Anyway... back to the restaurant... they have an extensive menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, pittas and wraps, and the daily specials board had tempting delights such as sweet and sour vegetables with rice, and borlotti bean and sweet potato chilli. Will definitely be heading back there next time I'm up in Inverness! Another fantastic feature is the Complementary Therapy rooms upstairs, offering a huge range of therapies including massage, reiki, homeopathy, allergy therapy, acupuncture and yoga! The Good Earth is a place I frequent often, in fact whenever I am visiting Wells I end up there. Either for a bite to eat at the counter service restaurant, a quick tea and cake, or for shopping in the wholefood shop. The food in the restaurant is flavoursome and varied, you can see what you are getting before you buy, and even catch glimpses of the kitchen staff bustling away to prepare more tasty goodies.
I like the way they serve the customers, with one person serving the food, getting the drink and taking the money per customer. It keeps it simple, fast and means the customer only deals with one person through the whole process. This ensures great customer service every time. The restaurant itself is a relaxed place to sit, with many rooms upstairs, downstairs and an outdoor courtyard to chose from. A chilled place to meet up with friends for lunch. The Good Earth began in the 70s as a wholefood store, and there is still to this day a health food shop providing organic, local and alternative foods and products. Fresh fruit and veg, wheat and dairy alternatives, organic options of many of your favourite products, supplements and natural toiletries: you name it, you'll find it here! The products come from a wide range of suppliers, all noted for their ethical standards. Again, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the shop, and an enjoyable shopping experience every time.
A few extra little things to make the place even more special: the artwork you see around the restaurant is created by local artists, and is for sale, so please ask the staff about it. I recommend a visit to the website www.thegoodearthwells.co.uk ... not least because they share some of their most incredible recipes! The Good Earth restaurant, Wholefood Store and 'The Potager' homestore,
located on Priory Road near the bus station in Wells. It's a 5-10 minute walk from Wells Cathedral. |
