Every year in a bluebell woods near Lake Windermere, the Lake District, something magical occurs. A space is created: a Space to Emerge.
This gathering of earth-centred people arrive together to explore the truth beyond what we can see and feel every day. Created by Nicola and Jason of The Way of the Buzzard, this shamanic-esque gathering is a peaceful way to rec-connect with ones self, the surrounding nature, the community, and those beings that we trust to help us along the way. The festival begins with an opening circle of drumming and singing together, followed by a community shared meal. Three days of workshops ensue, including shamanic journeys and practices at the Yew Grove, speaking with nature and animals, sacred warrior dancing, singing and meditations, writing circles and self-contemplation. The evenings are spent around the campfire telling stories and singing songs, and one night an open mic night and ceilidh dance is held, great for bringing the community together. Healing tents allowed for self-healing and relaxation, and every morning began with a gong bath. And all the while camping in the most beautiful of locations; we were sleeping near a holly tree. Myself and my partner Bradley worked at the festival this year, me as crew and he as First Aider. This was a great first introduction for me, as I felt I was involved straight from the beginning. I was very grateful for my shifts on the welcome desk, because it meant I got an opportunity to speak to people. Coming into something and somewhere completely different from our every day life was a rejuvenating experience for us, and something we will continue to pursue for many years to come.
